Dinner, A Half-Baked Idea?

Drive through meals and TV dinners seem like the easiest way to fill our stomaches now days. It's fast, convenient and tasty (well, most of the meals are!).

"Fast food is food that can be prepared and served very quickly. While any meal with low preparation time can be considered to be fast food, such as TV dinners, typically the term refers to food which is cooked in bulk in advance, kept warm or reheated to order, and sold ready-to-eat from an outlet." - Wikipedia

What ever happened to a home made dinner? When we walked in the door and our mother would be standing over the stove cooking a wholesome dinner for the family. It was always a balanced meal, with vegetables and meats, all in portions that wouldn't fill us to the brim but just enough so we felt full.

It's just not a reality anymore.

Most of us don't have the luxury of having our mother waiting for us at home with a meal on the table. We are busy with our daily lives, sometimes we even find it hard to have a good 8 hour sleep at night to rejuvinate ourselves for the next day. We have become a driven society that can't find the time to eat a healthy meal at least once a day.

That's only food, how about exercise? Now that's another story!

According to The National Centre for Health Statistics, a study on Physical Activity Among Adults in the United States between 2000 and 2005:

The percentage of adults who spent most of their day sitting increased from 36.8% in 2000 to 39.9% in 2005.

The percentage of adults who did no lifting during their usual daily activity increased from 28.3% in 2000 to 29.5% in 2005.

The percentage of adults who engaged in no leisure-time physical activity increased from 38.5% in 2000 to 40.0% in 2005.

The percentage of adults who were never active increased from 9.4% in 2000 to 10.3% in 2005.

Among adults, regular physical activity has been associated with a reduced risk of stroke, impaired glucose tolerance, Type 2 diabetes, mortality, and cardiovascular disease incident events. Engaging in physical activity daily has also proven to be helpful in both losing weight and maintaining weight loss.

Interesting.

It's a shocking truth that's taking over the world.

Michael Moore's documentary title explains it all. Fast Food Nation. There's no denying it.

So why not put aside some time in your day to make your dinner. It's not a matter of laziness, but a matter of urgency. It needs to be done, you don't want to be a statistic!
